Holiday Cottages in the Lake District - A Personal Recollection

My first memories of visiting our Holiday Cottage in the Lake District were as a ten year old girl travelling up from London on a family holiday in a car full of dogs and sisters. This was the first time I had really seen lakes in England and I was staggered to find them on my very own doorstep.

Digg!

I've always had a soft spot for the Lakes and love coming back whether for work or for pleasure, as there is such diversity. Yet, many people may not realise that this is a largely untapped resource for our foreign visitors as many prefer visiting more urban areas.

I find that the Lakes really is a holiday destination for all seasons. With its beautiful picturesque scenery and its breathtaking walks, romantic landscape of lakes, mountains and coast, there is also an unrivalled choice of things to see and do even when its raining!
'You can't help falling in love with the Lakes and above all the choice of Holiday Cottages in the Lake District are a joy to behold. I am always looking forward to my next visit and whether you have been before or are coming for the first time, you can't help falling in love with the Lakes.'

Whatever the purpose of my holiday - maybe fell walking, taking a leisurely boat trip, fishing, touring, sketching, painting, visiting historical sites, photography or just relaxing and getting away from it all, I always find something different to do and still excite me.

Personally I prefer to use holiday cottages as I find them to be equally comfortable in summer or winter and offering huge variety including – little quaint cottages and houses nestled in a quiet corner, some old, some modern, some with exceptional comfort, some at a modest price.

I always try to vary where I stay as it then ignites a real feeling of excited anticipation prior to my arrival. One thing I do find though is that I am rarely disappointed as each one has its very own character.

But why listen to me? If you would like to see the range of Holiday Cottages in the Lake District you can view these here.

'I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud'

This is the most famous of all William Wordsworth poems, first published 200 years ago in 1804 and has become England’s most easily-recognised poem. The Wordsworth Trust says the famous poem was composed in 1804, two years after Wordsworth saw the flowers on the shores of Lake Ullswater. The area is also one of the last remaining strongholds of the Lake District red squirrel.

'I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.'
